The cause of a Hixson house fire is under investigation after an aggressive attack by Chattanooga firefighters. Just before 6 PM on 3/29/24, Hamilton County 911 began receiving multiple calls from neighbors of flames coming from a home in the 900 block of Brynewood Park Drive. First arriving units reported fire through the roof and launched an interior attack. Crews soon learned from the homeowner that no one was inside the structure. CFD personnel transitioned from offensive to defensive operations and then went offensive again, preventing the fire from spreading through the remainder of the residence. There were no injuries. Ladder 19, Squad 19, Engine 16, Engine 11, Engine 22, Battalion 2, Battalion 3 (Green Shift), HCEMS, Dallas Bay Rehab, CPD, CFD Supply, and CFD Investigations responded. Thanks to our Tri-State Mutual Aid Association partners for providing coverage while our fire companies worked on this scene.

A woman sustained life-threatening injuries in a house fire on North Moore Road Thursday afternoon and was rescued by Chattanooga firefighters. Hamilton County 911 received a call at 12:18 PM on 3/28/24 from someone cutting grass in the 1000 block of North Moore Road across from Brainerd High School. The reporting party could smell smoke and rushed to a nearby home, spotting flames inside. Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly learned that there was possible entrapment. They searched the home as they attacked the fire and removed one victim and one dog from the structure. The injured victim was transported to the hospital as CFD personnel continued working to extinguish the fire. North Moore Road was closed due to fire hose being in the roadway to provide a water supply as firefighting operations were conducted. East Ridge FD assisted with coverage in District 13. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Squad 1, Engine 5, Engine 15, Ladder 13, Engine 4, Battalion 2, Battalion 1 (Blue Shift), CPD, HCEMS and CFD Investigations responded.

Update: The woman pulled from the house fire on North Moore Road by firefighters this afternoon has tragically succumbed to her injuries. Her name is not yet being released. The fire remains under investigation. The CFD offers our condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

In windy conditions, Chattanooga firefighters successfully stopped flames from spreading through newly built townhomes Monday night. At 10:57 PM on 3/25/24, Red Shift companies responded to 1629 Adams Street and found smoke coming from the roof of a three-story townhouse. Fire was located on the third floor of the structure. A swift interior attack was made and crews had the fire under control in 15 minutes. It was contained to the second and third floor of the townhome. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. There was no damage to any other units in the building, which is under construction. Engine 1, Squad 1, Ladder 1, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Engine 14, Squad 20, Battalion 1, and Battalion 3 responded.

The Chattanooga Fire Department is looking for firefighters who will strengthen and move our department forward. We are currently taking applications for fire cadets for our next fire academy which is set to start in January 2025. The 2024 Fire Academy is currently underway.

Candidates will be responsible for participating in our six-month fire academy. Duties include attending class, taking exams and integrating classroom training during hands-on exercises. No prior experience or knowledge is required. Our training staff will educate cadets on all aspects of the fire service. They will complete Emergency Medical Technician training and learn how to fight different types of fires. They will also master other skills like hazardous materials operations, vehicle extrication, rope rescues, tactical ventilation, self-rescue and how to save fellow firefighters’ lives in dangerous situations.
