10-20-17 No Injuries in Apartment Fire
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire in North Chattanooga shortly before 10:00 this morning. When firefighters arrived at 316 Chambliss Street, light smoke was showing from the quadplex. Battalion Chief Chris Warren said the fire appears to have started on the backside of one of the apartments. Chief Warren said a neighbor was attempting to put the fire out with a garden hose when firefighters arrived on the scene. However, the flames continued to spread and were beginning to get inside the corner apartment unit.
10-15-17 Firefighter Injured in Afternoon House Fire
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- At 3:15 this afternoon, Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire a few blocks from Station 4. Upon arrival, Captain Wadie Suttles said the one-story, vacant house, located at 2310 Infantry Road, had heavy fire showing from the front. It took five fire companies roughly 30 minutes to get the fire under control. One firefighter sustained a few burns during the firefighting operation and was treated and released from a local hospital.
The dollar loss was estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
10-12-17 Firefighters Assist Stranded Boaters
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Two boaters on the Tennessee River near Ross's Landing called 911 for help after the motor on their boat failed. Details are still being obtained, but Battalion Chief Don Bowman said the two men were trying to tow another small vessel around 6:00 p.m. today when they lost power and started drifting downstream. Firefighters with our fireboat from Station 10 responded, and after checking out the two men, towed their boats to Ross's Landing. The firefighters said one of the men had a minor injury to one leg, but otherwise they appeared to be uninjured.
10-09-17 Mayor Berke Announces Phil Hyman to Lead Chattanooga Fire Department
Chattanooga, Tenn. (October 9, 2017) - Today, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke announced Phil Hyman as the next chief of the Chattanooga Fire Department, while standing alongside city leaders at Fire Station 1. Hyman brings 22 years of service to the position, where he will lead the firefighters to help make Chattanooga safer by protecting life and property.
10-09-17 Fire Officials Kick Off Fire Prevention Week
Chattanooga, TN -- Chattanooga firefighters gathered at the Fireman's Fountain on Georgia Avenue this morning to officially kick off Fire Prevention Week in Chattanooga. Mayor Andy Berke and Fire Marshal William Matlock led the ceremony, which honored those firefighters who have passed away over the past year. To help mark the occasion, members of the Alhambra Shrine Highlanders Pipes and Drums played a rendition of "Amazing Grace" to close out the event.
