Our Mission

To Serve with Excellence, Lead through Innovation, and use Technology to make a Positive Difference in Chattanooga.

Our Vision

To be the most technologically advanced city, by cultivating a collaborative environment where intentional actions drive innovative solutions, empowering our team and communities to be catalysts for positive change.

Responsibilities

The Department of Technology Services Digital Experience team is responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing the City of Chattanooga’s online presence. They design and develop visually appealing and user-friendly websites that are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This involves coding the website to ensure it is responsive and optimized for performance. The team is also tasked with content management, which includes creating and regularly updating content that communicates city services, news, events, and other relevant information.

Technical maintenance is a crucial part of their role, involving the implementation and maintenance of security measures to protect the website from cyber threats, troubleshooting technical issues, and keeping the website’s software and platforms up to date with the latest features and security patches. User experience (UX) design is another key focus, ensuring the website is easy to navigate and provides a positive experience for users, while also complying with accessibility standards to make the site usable by individuals with disabilities.

The team integrates various online services, such as permit applications, bill payments, and service requests, and ensures data from different city departments is available to users. They track and analyze user behavior to improve the website and its content and generate reports on website performance and user engagement for city officials and stakeholders. Community engagement is also a priority; the team collects and addresses feedback from residents, integrates social media platforms to enhance communication, and supports users who encounter issues with the website.

Additionally, the team trains city staff on how to use the content management system (CMS) and other web-related tools. They ensure the website complies with privacy laws and regulations and display necessary legal notices and disclaimers as required by law. Overall, the web development team for a city government plays a crucial role in making city services more accessible and efficient, enhancing communication with residents, and supporting the digital transformation of city operations.
