What is SLAP?
The Sewer Lateral Assistance Program (SLAP) provides financial assistance to low-income residents of Chattanooga for the repair or replacement of defective sewer laterals. A licensed plumber conducts repairs under contract with the city.
What is a Sewer Lateral?
A sewer lateral is a pipe that carries wastewater from a house to the sanitary sewer main line. The sewer lateral typically extends from under the house to the centerline of the street. Defective sewer laterals can leak raw sewage, polluting surface water and creating a potential health hazard. Compromised sewer laterals also allow rain to enter the main sewer lines, overwhelming the sewer system and causing it to overflow.
Who is Eligible for SLAP?
The following criteria must be met to be eligible for SLAP:
What is Covered by SLAP?
SLAP covers the full cost to repair or replace the sewer lateral from the exterior of the home to the connection with the sewer main for qualified homeowners.
What is Not Covered by SLAP?
SLAP does not cover repairs or replacements to the indoor plumbing of a home. SLAP does not cover commercial or rental properties.
