Where do recyclables go after your recycle bin?
Recyclables are delivered to our MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) for processing. Our MRF is Westrock.
Once processed the material is sorted, baled, and shipped to our MRF (Westrock) bales it up and sends it to companies like:
- Steel: Gerdau
- Aluminum: Service Aluminum
- Fibers (paper and cardboard): WestRock, Chattanooga and Stevenson, AL
- Glass (from recycling centers only): Strategic Materials, Atlanta
- Plastic 1 and 2*: Mohawk Flooring, North Georgia, KW Plastics Troy, AL
Currently, the market is low for plastics 3-7. However, we partnered with Hefty ReNew and they turn plastics 3-7 into things such as park benches, playground equipment, flooring, cinder blocks, 2x4s for buildings, and drainage pipes.
