CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Chattanooga Police Department is adding eight new sworn officers to its ranks, bringing the total number of sworn officers to 441.

Eight cadets from CPD 2023-2 graduated tonight in a ceremony held at The Camp House, 806 E. 12th Street in Chattanooga after 22 weeks of intense training that began March 10th. Training included both classroom instruction and hands-on drills in firearms, emergency medical response, patrol procedures, defensive tactics, interpersonal communication, criminal and Constitutional law, and professional and ethical conduct. “Officers at the Chattanooga Police Academy undergo 840 hours of comprehensive training – more training hours than the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training mandates,” said Lieutenant David Young, the Chattanooga Police Department’s director of training. “They are well-equipped to respond to calls for service and provide professional services to citizens.”

The new CPD sworn officers now start Phase Two of their training, which involves 16 weeks of riding with an experienced Field Training Officer to put into practice what they learned in the Academy and sharpen their skills.

The next Academy begins August 25th, but the Department is now accepting applications for the March 2024 Academy. People who are interested in enrolling and following a career path as a sworn Chattanooga Police officer can apply at Jobs in the Police Department. The deadline to apply is October 2nd.
