CPD Officer Shot In Exchange Of Gunfire

CHATTANOOGA, TN. – A Chattanooga Police officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire Friday night on North Holtzclaw at East 3rd.

Officers were on scene for a street crime related detail and encountered a suspect at 9:41 pm. At some point during the stop, gunfire was exchanged and an officer and the suspect were both shot. The suspect’s condition is unknown; the officer is in stable condition.

Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy will hold a news conference this morning (Saturday) at 8:00 am at the Police Service Center, 3410 Amnicola Highway, to update.

UPDATE:

The suspect was killed in the exchange of gunfire. He is 34 years old and from Chattanooga. The officer was treated at the hospital and was released pending further treatment. We will release the names of both at a later date.

The TBI is handling the investigation as is the standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings.
