Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly and the city’s Neighborhood Services encourages all Neighborhood Association members to attend a data-focused roundtable event on Monday, November 20th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Avondale Community Center, located at 1305 Dodson Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37406. The event is part of the Kelly Administration’s 2023 Neighborhood Roundtable Series and promises to be an invaluable opportunity for community leaders to harness the transformative power of data.
This event is designed to empower leaders within our neighborhoods by offering them valuable insights on how to access and utilize the City’s open data portal. Co-hosted by the Office of Performance Management & Open Data (OPMOD), this roundtable will guide attendees through the process of navigating open data resources, allowing them to make informed decisions and better serve their communities.
“Chattanooga has a long history of providing access to open data, but it’s not widely understood and mostly under-utilized,” said Mayor Kelly. “We want to change that by proactively pulling people together to teach them what the data is, how and when it’s updated, where to access it, and how to use it. We are committed to supporting our residents and Neighborhood Association members with valuable knowledge and tools that can empower them to create positive change within their communities. This event will help make that happen.”
During the event, OPMOD will demonstrate the practical applications of open data, shedding light on how it can be utilized for the benefit of the local community. In addition to exploring the City’s open data portal, attendees will gain insights into leveraging other data tools, such as the US Census, to acquire a more comprehensive understanding of their neighborhoods and their residents.
To maximize the experience, Neighborhood Association members are encouraged to bring their laptops to actively engage with the tools and resources demonstrated during the Roundtable. By doing so, they will be better equipped to apply their newfound knowledge in their roles and ultimately create more thriving neighborhoods.
