Two people were sent to the hospital Monday morning after being pulled by Chattanooga firefighters from their burning Alton Park home. At 7:09 AM on 6/24/24, Blue Shift companies were called to a duplex in the 4100 block of Fagan Street on reports of a house fire with entrapment. Engine 14 saw smoke upon arrival and immediately went into rescue mode. Engine 9 backed them up and together, the crews rescued a man and a woman from the structure. Both were transported to the hospital with serious injuries related to toxic smoke inhalation.
At 5:45 PM on 6/8/24, Ladder 5 Blue Shift responded to 1908 Bailey Avenue on a vehicle fire. On the scene, they found a fully involved car fire. As firefighters were working to extinguish the fire, there were several rounds of explosions. Two firefighters were in very close proximity when it exploded, but thankfully, they were not seriously injured. One of those firefighters, a captain, was checked out for head and ear pain following the incident. He sustained a mild concussion.
At 7:23 PM on 6/8/24, the Chattanooga Fire Department received an alarm for the old James A. Henry Elementary School at 1221 Grove St. on a reported commercial fire. The building is owned currently by the Chattanooga Housing Authority and is operated as a community center. On arrival, Blue Shift companies found light smoke coming from a door on the side of the building. Upon further investigation, the smoke got heavier as crews opened the door with smoke extending into the hallway. CFD crews made entry and searched all floors.
A Chattanooga woman escaped her burning home Monday morning as smoke and flames quickly spread through the residence. At 8:17 AM on 6/3/24, Red Shift companies responded to the 900 block of Rockway Drive after 911 received multiple reports of a house fire. Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames on arrival coming from the back of the structure and the smoke was working its way to the front of the house as the fire moved into the attic. They launched an immediate fire attack and search of the basement as other crews went through the front door.
There was a joint response to a house fire off Apison Pike Friday morning, with multiple agencies working together to combat flames. Just before 10:30 AM on 5/31/24, Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department’s fire marshal saw smoke in the area and was investigating when the call went out from 911 for units to respond to the 4900 block of Patsy Place. Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were first on the scene and reported a working structure fire, as well as the possibility of someone still inside the burning residence.

One man was left with severe injuries Thursday morning following an incident at a liquid nitriding facility in Chattanooga. At 9AM on 5/30/24, Blue Shift companies were called to TS USA (1031 Windtower Drive) off Riverfront Parkway for a commercial fire. There were reports that one of the workers was burned and his fellow employees were trying to help him. The fire was extinguished by workers with fire extinguishers. Firefighters arrived on the scene and immediately began patient care. Others went inside to make sure the fire was out.
What a great reunion with a CPR survivor! Amy Young got to personally thank the first responders who saved her life and show them how far she’s come in her recovery after a major health scare. Back in February, Amy was walking on the TN Riverwalk when she collapsed and went into sudden cardiac arrest. Firefighter Kace Allen (Engine 12 Green Shift) was off-duty at the time and spotted Amy on the ground. He rushed to help, immediately starting CPR while other bystanders called 911. Engine 10 Blue Shift responded to the scene and continued CPR.
Chattanooga Fire assisted Highway 58 with a house fire early Saturday morning. At 4:18 AM on 5/25/24, Ladder 7 and Battalion 2 Green Shift responded to the 6000 block of Porter Drive. Upon arriving on scene, Hwy 58 firefighters had the fire knocked down. An adult female, her husband, and a child were all inside the home at time of the fire, but the adult male was able to get them out of the home prior to responders arriving on scene. Ladder 7 arrived on scene and they were tasked with primary search and upon completion of the search no one else was located inside the home.
A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of an apartment fire in Chattanooga, damaging multiple units on Friday afternoon. At 3PM on 5/24/24, Green Shift companies were called to the Elements of Chattanooga Apartments (7310 Standifer Gap Road) after a reporting party called 911 saying they heard a loud boom and saw smoke coming from Building 6. First responding crews spotted smoke and fire in the first floor breezeway and immediately went to work, cutting into walls to attack the flames and stop it from spreading.
