Special Events, Block Parties, and Other Street Closures
Application Process
Obtain Application:

Submission Deadline:
- 60 days before planned closure (except for block parties)
Application Fee:
- $100 non-refundable fee
- Block parties outside the central business district with <50 participants: $25

Additional Documentation
Certificate of Insurance:
- Names City of Chattanooga as Additional Insured
- Lists address: 101 E 11th Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402
Permits will not be issued until application fee and insurance are received
Approval Process
- Applications will not be reviewed until full application fee is received
- Block parties with less than 50 participants may be submitted a minimum of 30 days before the planned closure
Post-Approval
- Note: Avoid printing brochures, publishing routes, or committing to a specific date until after permit approval
- Once approved, the applicant will receive:
- Permit
- Traffic Control Plan
- The Traffic Control Plan will detail:
- Traffic signs
- Barricades
- Chattanooga Police Officers required for closure.
- Event Organizer Responsibilities:
- Obtain, install, and remove various traffic control devices as per the Traffic Control Plan.
- Ensure conformity to standards specified in the current edition of The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Compliance and Consequences
- Failure to comply with regulations stated on the approved permit can result in:
- Court citation
- Fine of up to $50.00 per citation
- Court costs.
