3-8-22 Officer Involved Shooting - 1200 Bailey Avenue

The reporting party(s) advised that a party with a large knife was in the office of the National Cemetery exhibiting erratic and threatening behavior.
Officers encountered the suspect, who was clearly agitated and was indeed exhibiting erratic behavior.
Officers made several attempts to de-escalate the situation but the suspect continued to escalate.
As verbal attempts to de-escalate broke down, the suspect led Officers on a brief foot chase toward the entrance/exit of the cemetery.
Officers immediately moved to keep the suspect contained and prevent a greater public safety risk.
At that time the suspect, who was still in possession of a deadly weapon, placed Officers in imminent, life threatening danger which led to Officers engaging the suspect with gunfire, striking him.
Officers immediately began rendering life saving care and called for EMS.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS with what are now known to be non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect's weapon was recovered and collected on scene.
Per Chattanooga Police Department policy, all Officers involved will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
At the request of the District Attorney's Office, The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will be handling the criminal investigation and all findings will be turned over to the DA's Office.
