04-30-2013 Firefighters Respond to Train Fire
The train was located on a section of tracks that runs parallel with Lee Highway near I-75. Chief Boatwright said the fire was out when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported.
Chief Boatwright said the fire resulted in roughly 10 to 15 gallons of oil being spilled on the tracks. Norfolk Southern Railway will handle the cleanup and will investigate the cause of the fire.
In the photo (by Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright) – Not much evidence of a fire is visible, but the Norfolk Southern logo is partially obscured by the oil that spewed out from the ruptured oil line.
