09-04-2013 Tuesday Night Apartment Fire Under Investigation

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the initial alarm shortly before 8:00 p.m. and responded to 2079 Museum Street with four fire companies. The highly visible smoke and flames generated numerous calls to the 911 Communications Center.

Captain Joey Smith with Engine 5 said the fire was located in the apartment unit on the second floor. As other fire companies continued to arrive on the scene, Chattanooga firefighters carried up handheld hoselines and quickly attacked the fire, containing the fire damage to the upstairs unit. There was some water damage to the apartment unit below. The dollar loss was estimated at $35,000 to the building and contents in the two units.

Captain Smith said all of the residents in the building got out safely. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the family in the first floor apartment unit. The resident of the second floor unit could not be located. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chattanooga police, EPB and Hamilton County EMS provided valuable assistance on the scene.
