09-10-2013 CFD USAR Training Underway

USAR team members from all three shifts will be practicing "shoring" techniques, which are used for incidents involving collapsed structures (see attached photos).

Training Chief Phillip Hyman said the firefighters, specially trained in technical rescue incidents, will shore up a portion of the two-story, collapsed building, just as they would in a real emergency where victims are trapped in the fallen debris. "It's labor-intensive and hot," said Chief Hyman. "The firefighters must not only do this as quickly as they can, but correctly and safely, because a lot can go wrong if you're not careful."

The training will continue through Thursday of this week.
