09-10-2013 Duplex Fire Under Investigation

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 3:27 a.m. and responded to the scene with four fire companies. Captain Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division said the fire was on the "A" side of the duplex, toward the rear of the structure. Three people were in that unit when the fire was discovered, and all got out safely. A single resident in the other duplex also got out unharmed.

The firefighters extinguished the fire fairly quickly, limiting the fire damage to the "A" side of the duplex. The dollar loss was estimated at $40,000. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the victims. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS also provided valuable assistance on the scene.
