09-24-2013 Two Injured in Brainerd House Fire
Chattanooga fire investigators are still gathering information on this incident. What is known so far is that a fire broke out around 1:30 this afternoon in a home located at 4502 Kemp Drive. Battalion Chief Fredrick Blake said one of the victims, described as an elderly male, was in the front yard when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. He appeared to be suffering from severe burns to a large portion of his body. His wife reportedly helped him get away from the house, and received burns in the process, mostly to her hands. At the time of this release, their condition was still being evaluated at Erlanger.
The fire was beginning to spread into the attic before the firefighters could get the blaze under control. No dollar estimate was available, but there was substantial damage to the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The male burn victim was expected to be flown soon to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
Further updates will be provided as warranted.
