10-07-2013 Wrap-up of Fire Prevention Week Ceremonies
- Fire Chief Lamar Flint and Fire Marshal Beau Matlock kicked off Fire Prevention Week, which marks a series of public education events at area schools to teach children about fire safety.
- Rick Carlson with the Chattanooga Hamilton Place Rotary Club announced that Captain Dean Rogers and Senior Firefighter Kyle Duggan were selected as this year's Firefighter of the Year. Both firefighters were involved in the deadly house fire at 2014 Rawlings Street on April 1, 2013. Captain Rogers and Senior Firefighter Duggan forced their way into the burning home, and despite extreme risk to their own safety, searched for and found two children inside. One of the children died from injuries sustained in the blaze, but the other survived, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of these two firefighters.
