10-18-2013 No Injuries in Afternoon House Fire

The firefighters made a quick search through the house, but found no one inside. Meantime, other firefighters found the seat the fire at the rear of the house, in the basement. Chief Patton said they got the fire out within 5 to 10 minutes. The fire damage was contained to the basement, though the rest of the house was smoked up. No injuries were reported.

The house was occupied by LaFredrick Brown and his wife Tanya, her brother James Sherrell and her 18-year-old daughter. None were reportedly home when the fire was discovered. They also have two pet dogs. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS also provided valuable assistance on the scene.
