10-20-2013 Fire Displaces Family of Six

Lt. Tim Waters with Engine 15 said flames were visible on most sides of the house when the first firefighters arrived on the scene, and the residents of the house had already escaped the blaze unharmed. Lt. Waters said the fire appears to have started in the laundry room, and was quickly spreading up into the attic.

As firefighters from three additional fire companies arrived on the scene, they carried a hand-held hoseline into the laundry room and quickly extinguished the fire. Other firefighters did the same with the fire in the attic. Most of the fire damage was contained to the laundry room and part of the attic. The dollar loss was estimated at $20,000.

Lt. Waters said the fire displaced six people. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
