11-25-2013 Man Burned in Gas Pump Fire

Battalion Chief Charles Patton said a 32-year-old man was pumping gas into his vehicle when a fire erupted, catching his pants on fire, as well as part of the vehicle. Eyewitnesses said the man initially panicked and ran. A couple of people grabbed portable fire extinguishers and extinguished the fire on the man and his vehicle. Chief Patton said the fire was completely out when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Captain Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division said the victim has 1st and 2nd degree burns, mostly to his legs. The victim was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment. Captain Moore said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. How the fire actually started remains under investigation.
