12-23-2013 A Christmas Miracle for a Chattanooga Family

The mother, Jessica Holton, said she was administering some antibiotics to the baby when he suddenly stopped breathing. Jessica's fiancé, Leonard Curry, grabbed the baby and, recalling his training back when he was a lifeguard, administered child CPR to his son.

Officer Kyle Moses with the Chattanooga Police Department was the first to arrive on the scene after 911 Communications was called. As Officer Moses took over CPR, Chattanooga firefighters with Quint 1 arrived on the scene, followed by an ambulance with Hamilton County EMS. The CPR was successful! The baby took a deep breath and started crying. Moments later, the baby was taken on to the hospital for observation.

As Mr. Curry thanked the first responders for their help and support, it was learned that this family had no resources and their two older sons would likely not get any presents for Christmas. Chattanooga firefighters at Station 1 took up a collection on their own, and asked for help from the Forgotten Child Fund.

Today, two days before Christmas, the firefighters from Station 1 made a return trip to the family at Jaycee Towers, with boxes of toys for the two boys!
