01-27-14 Woman Wakes Up to Fire in Her Home

Battalion Chief Steve Swanson said firefighters with four fire companies quickly attacked the fire and got it under control in just a few minutes. In doing so, they were able to contain the fire damage to one room and its contents. The rest of the duplex on both sides had some smoke damage. The dollar loss was estimated at $10,000.

The resident in the "B" side told firefighters that she woke up and saw flames. She immediately got out and called 911. Fortunately, her daughter was not home at the time.

Chief Swanson said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental, most likely from an electrical malfunction. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the mother and her daughter.
