09-16-14 Donations Way Up for Firefighter MDA Fundraiser
Over a three day period in which firefighters took positions along major streets throughout the city, Chattanooga firefighters raised a total of $50,856 for MDA. Last year, the department raised $16,072. This year's record total includes a donation of $2,500 from the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association – Local 820, a co-sponsor of this event.
Fire Chief Lamar Flint was very pleased with the results. "Mayor Andy Berke and the city council really supported our beefed up efforts to get out on the streets and collect donations," said Chief Flint. "That made a big difference in how much money we could raise for MDA." This year marks the 60th anniversary of a close partnership between the fire service and MDA, which supports research and treatment for life-threatening muscle diseases.
