06-01-15 Fire Sends Woman to the Hospital

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 4:51 p.m. and responded to 2161 Shepherd Road with several fire companies.

Battalion Chief Jeff Eldridge said the firefighters attacked the fire quickly, getting the fire under control within 5 to 10 minutes. Most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen and living room.

One resident, described as a 38-year-old female, was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center after she complained of difficulty breathing. Chief Eldridge said the woman may have been suffering from smoke inhalation.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were requested to the scene to provide assistance to the victims. The number of people who lived in the residence was not available. The cause of the is under investigation.
