06-17-15 Busy Hot Day for Firefighters

Here is a summary on two of them:

1. Chattanooga firefighters responded to a waste pit fire at Clean Harbors, located at 3300 Cummings Road this afternoon. One firefighter was suffering from heat exhaustion and transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center. After cooling down and receiving lots of fluids, the firefighter is expected to make a complete recovery and be released around 6:00 tonight. Instead of finishing his shift, he will be sent home to finish recuperating.

2. We responded to a gas leak this afternoon on East Brainerd Road, near the intersection of Givens Road. This was a 4-inch gas line. Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright said a few businesses were evacuated as a precaution, but no one was injured. East Brainerd Road was completely blocked off until technicians with the Chattanooga Gas Company were able to shut the leak shut off.
