10-20-16 Firefighters Respond to Commercial Fire in Alton Park

Battalion Chief Ashley May said a hopper was full of combustible materials and a small area was on fire. Firefighters opened the hopper's hatch and applied large amounts of water and foam to the burning coal dust-type material. At the time of this release, the firefighters were still on the scene. No injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief Ashley May said there was minimal damage to the hopper. The plant was shut down during and after the fire. Information on how the fire impacted production at the company was not available. The cause of the fire will most likely be ruled accidental.
