05-10-17 Fire Victim Dies at Vanderbilt Medical Center

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. [Original news releases for this incident are included below.] This is the second fire-related fatality in Chattanooga this year. The first one occurred at 1003 N. Hickory Street on Feb. 18, 2017. Firefighters pulled a 78-year-old woman from the burning home, but she died several days later in the hospital.

Note to Media: Please note that on the victim's name, Archie Ray Brian Powell, he may be a "Jr." but we could not confirm that. Also, the address for this fire was originally reported as being on 7th Avenue. The lead fire investigator says the address is actually 2603 E. 38th Street.
