9-30-19 Two firefighters taken to hospital, apartments damaged in Hixson blaze

There is smoke and water damage in downstairs units. Two more apartments sustained minor damage.

Fire officials say 4-5 families have been displaced.

No residents were injured.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital with heat-related injuries.

A dog died in the fire, but firefighters were able to save a snake from one of the apartments.

Hamilton County EMS and Hamilton County Rehab Unit provided support.

Six total units were damaged.

“The crews made a great stop on this fire to keep it from being any worse. It was substantial but they did a great job," said Captain Scott Pell

One of the residents was grilling on the second floor balcony, according to fire investigators.

The grill caught on fire and it spread quickly to the apartment and attic, and also affected several other units.
