11-2-19 Smoke alarm distribution

At each time change in the spring and fall, CFD and the Red Cross team up to distribute free smoke alarms to homes in different areas throughout the city.

This time, we were in the East Lake community for smoke alarm distribution.

Tragedy struck that neighborhood in September when a three-year-old boy passed away from injuries he suffered when his family’s home caught fire on East 36th Street.

City firefighters and Red Cross volunteers canvassed the area, knocking on each door and offering to install smoke alarms. They also tested existing smoke alarms to make sure they work, or change the batteries.

Fire safety materials were provided for educational purposes.

This is an important public safety campaign that can save lives.
