Homeless camp fire near 75/24 split (490 Greenway View Drive). Woman indicated that she knocked a candle over and fire spread through the tents in the camp. No injuries. Ladder 13, Squad 13, Engine 15, Quint 8, Tanker 8, Battalion 2 (Green Shift), TDOT and CPD responded. Call came out at 9:05 AM Monday (2/14).

Flames destroyed an East Brainerd residence on Sunday morning in a fire that was visible from I-75, Highway 153 and beyond. Blue Shift companies were called to the 6800 block of Gayda Lane at 10:51 AM. First responding units found a half of a home fully engulfed in flames and a patient down in the roadway surrounded by family members. Firefighters checked on the patient and started an EMS unit. They then launched a blitz attack using a deck gun to knock down the flames and deployed additional attack lines. All of the occupants were out of the structure. Crews continued working to extinguish the fire. They were on scene for several hours fighting the blaze and monitoring hot spots. Four people were displaced and the American Red Cross was notified to assist them. The residents denied medical treatment on the scene and indicated that they would be going to the hospital in their personal vehicle to be evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home is considered a total loss. Quint 8, Squad 13, Ladder 13, Engine 15, Ladder 7, Quint 21, Quint 6, Battalion 2, Battalion 1, HCEMS, CPD, EPB, and CFD Investigations responded.

Gayda Lane house fire

Chattanooga firefighters stopped a chimney fire from spreading through a Lookout Valley residence Friday. Blue Shift companies were called to a home in the 4000 block of Obar Drive at 4:31 PM. A nanny was present in the house with a small child when she noticed smoke. She quickly exited with the child and called 911. Firefighters spotted heavy smoke in the chimney area on arrival. They quickly learned that the fire had gotten out of the chimney and into the structure itself. Crews got the fire out and prevented it from damaging the rest of the house, containing it to the living area around the fireplace and chimney. There were no injuries. Quint 1, Ladder 1, Squad 1, Quint 3, Squad 20 and Battalion 1 responded.

Then at 7:19 PM, units responded to another house fire, this time in Hixson. There were reports of smoke coming from the attic of a residence in the 1900 block of Dupont Street. Firefighters had the fire under control in ten minutes. No one was home at the time and the cause is under investigation. Squad 19, Ladder 19, Quint 16, Quint 6, Quint 10, Battalion 2, Battalion 3, CFD Investigations, HCEMS and CPD responded.

On 2/9/22 at 11:40 PM, Blue Shift companies were dispatched to a residential house fire in the 900 block of Charlotte Avenue. Quint 21, Quint 8, Squad 13, Ladder 13, Ladder 7, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, HCEMS, CPD, EPB, and Fire Supply responded. Firefighters spotted heavy smoke coming from the attic on arrival. Once inside, they were met with smoke and heat in the attic and found that the chimney was the source. Crews went outside, pulled the siding away from the chimney and extinguished the fire. They had a good stop on it, getting things under control in 15 minutes. There were no injuries. All residents and pets were out of the house. Four adults were displaced and took shelter with a family member.

A fire at a downtown homeless camp left a woman with serious burns on Wednesday night. On 2/2/2022 at 10 PM, Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched on a call involving a burn victim at 1503 Middle Street. The victim is homeless and was brought to a restroom at the Chattanooga River Park on Middle Street. Responding firefighters helped HCEMS load the patient. The victim was burned in a tent up the river walk a few hundred feet away at a homeless encampment in a vacant lot beside the walk. She was transported to the hospital and firefighters proceeded to the tent to extinguish what remained of the fire. The cause of the incident is under investigation. The victim sustained burns to 15% of her body, including her back, the back of her arms and both feet. Her burns were severe enough for her to be sent to a burn unit in Georgia for further treatment. The victim indicated to investigators that she was startin a warming fire in her tent at the time of the incident. The fire quickly got away from her and spread throughout the tent, leaving her with burns and destroying hr belongings and her home.
