8-28-19 UPDATE/8-26-19 Serious Injury Traffic Crash - 560 Ochs Highway

On August 26, 2019 at approximately 9:56 a.m., Chattanooga Police were notified of a traffic crash at 560 Ochs Highway. The CPD Traffic / DUI Unit responded to the scene. The following was determined through interview, observation, and investigation.

• Vehicle 1 (Volvo) was heading north traveling down Lookout Mountain.
• Vehicle 2 (Freightliner) was traveling south up Lookout Mountain.
• Vehicle 1 was negotiating a right turn during a period of rain with wet roadways.
• Vehicle 2 was negotiating a right turn in the same area.
• Vehicle 1 lost control and slid sideways across the double yellow line.
• As Vehicle 2 came out of the turn Vehicle 1 was in his lane of travel.
• Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 1 in the passenger side and pushed Vehicle 1 into the ditch on the right side of the road.
• Vehicle 2 also came to rest in the ditch.
• The driver of Vehicle 1 was extricated from the vehicle by the Chattanooga Fire Department and taken by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital.
• The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered major injuries as a result of the crash and is listed in critical condition by medical staff at the hospital.
