11-23-19 Pedestrian Struck / Fatal - 2100 McCallie Avenue

• A pedestrian, Shantel Hooks, was walking east on the westbound sidewalk at 2100 McCallie Avenue near the intersection.
• Mr. Hooks then attempted to cross the street to the eastbound sidewalk, across lanes of travel and not inside the marked crosswalk at the nearby intersection.
• Vehicle 1 (Kia SUV) was traveling west on McCallie Avenue in the number 1 lane approaching the intersection.
• The driver of Vehicle 1, Matthew Pruitt stated he did not see Mr. Hooks, and was not able to stop before striking him.
• Hamilton County EMS responded and transported Mr. Hooks to a local hospital.
• On November 23, 2019 at approximately 8:10 p.m., Chattanooga Police were notified that Mr. Hooks had succumbed to his injuries.
• The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
