It was a busy night for Green Shift. Just after midnight (after fighting a house fire on Foust St), crews were called to a grocery store on Tunnel Boulevard where a car had crashed into the building and caught fire. The driver was out of the vehicle. Engine 15, Squad 13 and Battalion 2 handled the call.

A residential fire on Foust Street Monday night sent one person to the hospital after they were forced to jump out of a window to escape the burning home. It happened at 9:32 PM in the 1900 block. Responding Green Shift companies quickly established a water supply and launched a fire attack while a search of the structure was simultaneously conducted. No one was found inside. The home was fully engulfed in flames. Crews made a quick transitional attack from the outside and went inside to knock the fire down. It was under under control in approximately 30 minutes. One party was inside the house at the time of the fire and told officials that he jumped out of a window to escape, leaving him with a laceration to his hand. He was transported by a personal vehicle to the hospital for treatment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two people were transported to the hospital following a fire at a Chattanooga home caused by a dangerous practice. The CFD responded to a reported residential fire in the 700 block of Gillespie Road at 12:45 AM on Monday. Firefighters entered the structure from the back porch to find an elderly woman with serious injuries. Crews then located the room where the fire took place. The fire was out upon arrival with damage to a recliner and end table. A fan was set up for smoke removal and aid was administered to the patient. HCEMS arrived and assumed care and transported the woman to the hospital. A second injured patient had minor burns to their hand and foot and was also transported to the hospital. Investigators learned that the elderly woman had been smoking while on oxygen, causing a fire. It left her with third degree burns under her arm and down her left side. A relative also sustained burns when they rushed to put the fire out and help their injured family member. We want to remind the public that smoking while on oxygen is extremely dangerous. Please don't do it. It increases your chances of having a severe burn injury and often causes fires.

The Chattanooga Fire Department had a rescue at Greenway Farms quarry Saturday night. The reporting party fell and was injured around 7:30 PM. Crews went in, packaged the patient and brought them out in a Gator. Squad 19, Squad 7, Engine 19, Engine 11, Quint 10, USAR 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3 (Green Shift), Special Ops, CPD and HCEMS responded. The CFD has worked multiple rescues at this location. It’s the fourth for Green Shift alone in recent months.

Two girls were reunited with their mother on Thursday after being separated from her on the water, causing concern. A large search operation was launched at Audubon Acres to help find the juveniles. Around 2:15 PM, members of the Chattanooga Fire Department were dispatched to 900 N Sanctuary Road for a water rescue. According to the reporting party (mother), a seven-year-old girl and 14-year-old girl went into the water around noon on floats wearing life jackets, but they did not come out of the water an hour later when they were all supposed to meet up at a kayak launch/pull out spot. East Ridge Fire Department was notified and put kayaks in the water to help with the search. Other civilian kayakers assisted authorities as well. Police officers from Chattanooga and East Ridge went to different locations, checking for the girls on trails. The drone unit from Hamilton County EMA responded, along with HCEMS. Crews continued searching on land and water. Around 3:20 PM, their mother got a call from one of the girls saying she was with a golfer on Hole 4 at Brown Acres Golf Course. The golfer was kind enough to take the girls on his golf cart to the clubhouse where officers reunited them with their mom. They were not injured. They passed their pickup point on their floats, but they ultimately managed to get out of the water on their own and sought help. “All of the agencies worked really well together on this incident and we appreciate everyone’s help. We are so glad these children are safe,” said Captain Chris Fryar, who was part of the unified command. Quint 21 and Battalion 2 (Green Shift) responded, along with CFD Special Operations.
