A driver was not injured when his car caught fire inside an automated car wash on Signal Mountain Road Sunday.

Crews were called to the Surf’s Up Car Wash at 5:08 PM following reports that a Dodge Durango was on fire inside the self-serve car wash tunnel. Thankfully, the driver was able to exit the vehicle safely.

The fire was out on arrival, but crews assessed the situation to make sure the flames were fully extinguished and that the scene, as well as the structure, were safe. A wrecker pulled the SUV out because the front tires melted. The car wash had minor damage. Quint 17, Quint 14, Squad 1, Ladder 1, Quint 1, Quint 16, Engine 12, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3 (Green Shift), CFD Special Operations and CPD responded.

It appears the vehicle malfunctioned and burst into flames just as it was going through the car wash. The employees and driver all acted quickly when they saw what was happening.

The CFD assisted on the scene of a car into a building on Mountain Creek Road. A truck ran off the road and struck a structure and the main electrical panel, knocking out power to 10 units.

The single vehicle crash happened at 1029 Mountain Creek Rd at 8:23 AM. An older male experienced what's believed to be something medically related while driving. The vehicle he was driving went off the road, up an embankment, and struck the apartment building. The driver did not appear to suffer injuries from the crash, but was taken to the hospital by EMS for evaluation of whatever the medical situation was that contributed to the crash. The apartment was occupied by two people at the time of crash. Neither reported injuries nor were they taken to the hospital.

Quint 17, Squad 19, Squad 1 and CFD Special Operations responded.

Firefighters made a quick interior attack and conducted simultaneous searches. No one was found and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Engine 9, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Ladder 1, Squad 1, Squad 13, Battalion 1 and 2 (Blue Shift), EMS, CPD, EPB, and CFD Investigations responded.

A fire that severely gutted a house being renovated is under investigation by the Chattanooga Fire Department.

It happened Saturday at 7:05 PM in the 5300 block of Hazelwood Avenue, not far off Brainerd Road. Multiple callers reported to 911 that the entire back of the home was engulfed in flames.

Responding units confirmed that they were dealing with a working fire and went about strategically attacking it. As they fought the fire, they also searched the residence. No one was found inside.

With work being done on the house, it was wide open inside which allowed the fire to spread quickly and it progressed into the attic. Crews made a good stop on it and kept the flames from making their way through the entire structure.

There were no injuries. Ladder 13, Squad 13, Engine 15, Ladder 5, Squad 7, Battalion 1, Battalion 2 (Red Shift), CFD Investigations, EPB, CPD and HCEMS responded. East Ridge Fire Department sent personnel to Station 13 for coverage.

An East Lake family will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross in the wake of a kitchen fire at their 10th Avenue home.

It happened Wednesday at 12:08 PM in the 4300 block. Engine 9 made it to the scene quickly and found heavy fire coming out of the window on the right side of the house. They made a defensive attack and managed to keep the flames from spreading to a vehicle parked in the driveway.

They got it knocked down and made their way to the front porch to begin an interior attack and search of the residence. There was low visibility due to the smoke but they could feel lots of heat and spotted fire ahead of them. They worked to get it out as they advanced towards the flames. Other crews started ventilation to improve firefighting conditions.

Thankfully, all of the residents made it out safely and there were no injuries. There’s extensive damage inside the structure from fire and smoke, especially in the kitchen area and front portion of the home.

Engine 9, Quint 14, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Squad 1, Battalion 2 and 3 (Green Shift), CPD, HCEMS and EPB responded.
