News Releases

It was a busy night for the Chattanooga Fire Department. After working a commercial fire on Highway 58, crews were called to a residential fire not far off of Highway 58 a short time later.

Around 7 PM, several companies were dispatched to a home in the 4700 block of Beverly Kay Drive.

Several handicapped residents and their caregivers noticed smoke in the house and called 911. The caregivers started evacuating the residents.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, nothing was visible, but they checked everything and found smoke in the kitchen coming from under the sink.

A fire in the back wall of the home was discovered so some of the crews worked to put the fire out as others helped get the residents out of the structure.

Due to the cold weather, they waited in a van and an ambulance while CFD extinguished the fire, which was determined to be electrical.

The displaced residents will be staying in a hotel for the time being. There were no injuries.

Battalion 2, Quint 6, Ladder 7, Squad 7, Engine 15, Engine 4 (Green), HCEMS and EPB responded.

Chattanooga firefighters had a very quick stop on a commercial fire Friday afternoon on Highway 58.

It happened at 4:08 PM at Carter Shooting Supply (6208 Highway 58). There were reports that the building was filling up with black smoke.

Everyone evacuated the structure safely and CFD crews found rubber used for the gun range on fire. It was contained to a back corner and extinguished.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding units included: Quint 8, Squad 7, Ladder 7, Quint 6, Squad 19, Ladder 19, Engine 4, Engine 15 (Green), CFD Special Operations, HCEMS and CPD.

Thanks to Highway 58 and Dallas Bay for providing fire coverage at Station 7 while CFD was on the scene.

Here’s what the business posted: “We would like to thank everyone for your calls and texts to make sure we are ok. Just to let everyone know, the store was never on fire. The rubber in the backstop on the pistol side caught fire and was put out quickly by Chattanooga Fire Dept. It is completely enclosed concrete building so the fire was contained only to the rubber in the bullet trap. There is smoke and water but not a lot of major damage. The rifle side is fine, just smoke that will have to be cleaned up. The range will be closed for the next week or so until it can be cleaned up. Thanks to everyone for calling and texting, to make sure we are ok! We are all good and no one was injured.”

Ladder 1 (Green) was so happy to be Santa’s helpers when they gave him a lift outside of Children's Hospital at Erlanger on Wednesday, bringing him to the upper floors of the building.

He said hello to the hematology/oncology patients and even FaceTimed with the kids so they could talk to him safely from inside the hospital. COVID made for a different kind of interaction with Santa, but it was great event enjoyed by everyone involved. One of the children asked for “lots of Christmas cheer” this year- a meaningful request!

Footage and photos from the unique visit was shared by news stations all over the country, as well as other national media outlets and TV shows like CBS News, ABC News and Entertainment Tonight. We wish all of the staff and patients a very Merry Christmas!

Multiple CFD companies were dispatched to a reported residential fire in the 2100 block of Ocoee Street Saturday morning at 2:12 AM.

Calls to 911 indicated that the side of a house was on fire, which was confirmed by police officers arriving on the scene.

Engine 4 established command and found fire engulfing the side of the home at 2107 with structural endangerment of the vacant property next door.

The crew performed a primary search and no one was found. They began extinguishing the fire. Other responding firefighters conducted additional searches and launched an interior attack.

The fire was knocked down quickly, mitigating structural endangerment. On the inside, crews got the fire under control fast.

A fire investigator was called to the scene due to the home being vacant and under construction. There were no injuries.

Engine 4, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Quint 10, Squad 13, Squad 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 3 (Green Shift), Fire Investigator, EPB and CPD responded.

Cleanup took several hours on DuPont Parkway and Amnicola Highway after a fuel spill.

The Chattanooga Fire Department’s fuel truck (which fills up our fire trucks at different fire halls) was headed back to CFD Supply around noon on Friday when it lost one of its hoses, spilling around 350 gallons of diesel fuel in the roadway.

The spill went from DuPont Parkway to the on-ramp to the CB Bridge.

CFD Special Operations Division was on the scene, along with Squad 7, Quint 10, Quint 16, Public Works and CPD.

Dupont Parkway was shut down due to slick conditions. An environmental company assisted with the cleanup. By 6:35 PM: all roads were safe and back open.
