On Saturday afternoon, the Tennessee Highway Patrol requested CFD to help assess a building on Highway 58 after a car crashed through the front of the unoccupied commercial structure.

It happened around 3:15 PM at 4935 Highway 58.

When Quint 6 and Battalion 2 arrived on the scene, they found that a passenger car had come to rest inside the vacant business. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and in THP custody.

Firefighters swept up a large amount of glass from the glass storefront being shattered. There did not appear to be any structural issues. The owner of the building was contacted and came to the scene. A wrecker removed the vehicle.

Shallowford Road house fire

The Chattanooga Fire Department's Investigations Division charged an 11-year-old boy in connection with intentionally set fires at a home in his neighborhood.

It happened Monday (11/23) at 4:10 PM on Maude Street.

CFD investigators say the juvenile tried to set a house on fire and also caused a car fire.

Engine 5, Quint 1, Squad 1, Ladder 1, Quint 10, Engine 4, Battalion 1 and Battalion 3 responded to the call. Dispatch advised the crews that they would be dealing with a possible vehicle and dumpster fire close to a residence. Engine 5 arrived on the scene and found a fire at the rear of a vehicle parking in the driveway of a home on Maude Street. Engine 5 personnel attacked the fire and got it extinguished. A small fire was also located in a trash can next to the residence and was extinguished.

Several witnesses provided statements about what they saw to investigators, who arrested and charged the child with Aggravated Arson and Setting Fire to Personal Property.

He was transported to a juvenile detention facility. The boy lives in the area, but not at the house where he allegedly caused the fires. His name is not being released because of his age.

The garbage can that was set on fire was up against the house, which was occupied at the time of the incident. Thankfully, firefighters got it out before flames could spread to the home. A cooler on the porch was also set on fire. The car fire caused damage to the vehicle.

Fire tore through a residence in Highland Park early Saturday morning and as firefighters battled the blaze, they also managed to keep the flames from spreading to other houses adjacent to the burning structure.

It happened at 2:35 AM at 2003 Bennett Avenue. The occupants came home and found the two-story structure on fire.

First responding units discovered heavy flames coming from the back of the house from both stories.

Crews went inside and saw that most of the second floor was on fire so they pulled out the residence for safety reasons. At that point, flames were coming through the roof.

It took an hour and a half to get the fire under control. The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Firefighters protected nearby exposures, keeping other houses safe on both sides of the structure.

Engine 5, Ladder 5, Quint 1, Ladder 1, Squad 1, Engine 4, Engine 9, Squad 20, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, HCEMS, Chattanooga Police, EPB, and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue’s Rehab Truck responded to the scene.
