Chattanooga firefighters rescued a man who fell down an elevator shaft Monday morning. Red Shift companies were dispatched to the James Building (735 Broad Street) at 8:05 AM on a reported high fall. Additional units were sent to the scene when information was received that the patient was at the bottom of an elevator shaft. The patient was part of a crew working in the building and he fell approximately 20 feet due to the elevator car not being in place. Firefighters made access to the injured patient from the basement and he was packaged for transport to the hospital. Ladder 1, Quint 1, Squad 1, Squad 20, Battalion 1, CFD Special Operations, HCEMS and CPD responded to the call.

Green Shift crews responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 800 block of James Avenue at 4:12 PM on Sunday. It involved a shed outside of a detached garage at the home. The shed caught fire and it spread to the garage. On top of that, flames caused damage to the home itself and a neighbor’s house by melting off the siding. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.

On May 7, 2022, the CFD responded to a residential structure fire in the 2400 block of Wilhoit Street. Engine 4 arrived on the scene at 11 PM and found a single-story residence with more than 60% involvement. Flames were visibly exiting the structure out of the front and side window as well as through the roof. A single occupant had safely exited the structure prior to the CFD’s arrival. Engine 4 established a water supply and initiated a transitional attacked starting defensively outside of the structure until additional personnel arrived to provide manpower for an attack team and RIT. Once in place, an interior offensive search and attack were made which led to a quick knockdown of the fire. Overhaul was done to ensure there were no more hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Engine 4, Ladder 5, Quint 10, Quint 6, Squad 1, Squad 7, Battalion 2, Battalion 3 (Red Shift) and CFD Investigations were on the call.
