Chattanooga firefighters rescued one person from a burning duplex in Hixson Sunday night.

It happened at 9:10 PM in the 5100 block of Eldridge Road.

There were reports of possible entrapment in the residential blaze so a second alarm was called to bring additional units to the scene.

When crews arrived, there was heavy fire coming out of the front of the unit on the left side of the duplex.

They also found flames in the basement.

Firefighters attacked the fire and conducted searches simultaneously on the first floor and in the basement.

They found one person in the basement and pulled him out. He was taken to the hospital. At this time, his injuries and condition are unknown.

Residents on the right side of the duplex got out safely and were not injured.

The fire was out by 10 PM. The cause is under investigation.

Quint 19, Squad 19, Engine 22, Engine 12, Engine 11, Squad 7, Quint 6, Battalion 2 and 3, CPD, EPB and HCEMS were on the scene along with the Hamilton County Rehab Truck Response.

Firefighters found a vacant home on Laws Avenue fully engulfed in flames Thursday night and crews worked together to get the fire knocked down.

The call came in around 8:45 PM that the back of a house was on fire in the 300 block.

Units arrived and started an interior attack, but it became too dangerous so firefighters were evacuated from the burning structure for their safety. Exterior operations were launched and the fire was out by 9:20 PM.

Searches of the structure were done and no one was found inside the residence.

Engine 15, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Squad 7, Quint 8, Engine 9, Quint 13, Squad 13, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, CPD, and HCEMS responded, along with Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue with their Rehab Truck Response.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Neighbors alerted CFD to a residential fire in East Lake early Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to a vacant home in the 4000 block of 12th Avenue off Dodds Avenue just after 2:30 AM.

They found a fully involved structure fire and launched an interior attack.

Firefighters were eventually pulled out of the house for safety reasons and continued with a defensive operation. The fire was marked under control at 3:24 AM.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Ladder 5, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, Quint 14, Squad 1, HCEMS, CPD, and EPB were on the scene.

There were no injuries. No one was found inside the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

12th ave vacant house fire

EPB workers spotted a duplex fire early this morning and got all of the residents out safely.

The workers were in the area at the time and took action.

It happened just before 3 AM in the 1600 block of South Watkins Street, off of East Main Street.

Initial reports were that the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

Engine 5 spotted heavy smoke in the area while headed to the scene and made an interior attack upon arrival.

Other responding units assisted them and the fire was out by 3:15 AM.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Ladder 1, Ladder 5, Squad 13, Squad 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 3, CPD, HCEMS and EPB were on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Families on both sides of the duplex were displaced and they will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

S Watkins St fire

CFD responded to a residential fire alarm Sunday at a home in the 300 block of Derby Street around 8:30 PM.

Crews found a small fire in the crawl space. They had to chop through the dining room floor to extinguish the fire.

Ladder 5, Engine 5, Engine 4, Engine 15 and Battalion 1 were on the scene. The cause is believed to be an electrical issue.
