On November 15, City Council passed an ordinance to rezone the Airport Inn property for Urban General Commercial Zone. The rezoning is legally required to convert the motel into a permanent supportive housing complex. Why? Because of the way the rules are written, permanent housing at the same level of density as a motel requires a different zone. If the property was not rezoned, it could not become any type of permanent housing.
-
With City Council approval of the rezoning of the property, the City has moved forward with the development of a request for proposals (RFP) for a contractor to renovate the building and a service provider to manage and staff the facility.
-
The City hosted two community roundtable meetings, structured as working sessions to solicit ideas for the draft RFP. The meetings were held on November 30 from 2 - 3 pm, and December 14 from 6 - 7 pm at Shepherd Hills Community Center. All residents are welcome to attend.
- A summary of input received during the roundtables is available here. City officials used the input when drafting the RFP, which will be reviewed by City Council on Tuesday, January 17, and if approved, posted for solicitations by Wednesday, January 18.
