At 7:25 p.m. today, the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 627 W. Bell Ave. Seven Chattanooga Fire Companies responded, and it was reported that smoke was visible while en route to the scene.

All occupants made it out without injury prior to Chattanooga Fire's arrival, but unfortunately, a pet cat did not survive.

The fire was contained to the structure, and it took crews a little over three hours to completely extinguish the fire.

Due to the extent of the damages, the home was a total loss, and the family has been displaced.

CFD responded to a residential fire at 1400 Carousel Road at 3:30 AM. 911 callers reported that there were 4 people trapped inside. A second alarm was started to assist with rescue efforts.

Hamilton County EMS transported one 35-year-old male to Erlanger Hospital for smoke inhalation. That individual had climbed out a second-story bedroom window to escape prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Upon arrival, Engine 15 reported heavy fire coming from the structure. Crews immediately began knocking down the fire and searching the structure. Firefighters were able to pull four people from the structure, unfortunately, none of them survived. There were three females and one male. The ages of the victims range from 85 to 35.

Chattanooga Fire Investigators along with Chattanooga Police Major Crimes division are currently conducting an investigation.

The Chattanooga Fire Department had a big rescue today when a tree fell on a home, trapping two family members under its weight. Special steps had to be taken to free them.

It happened in the 200 block of Glendale Drive, at the foot of Signal Mountain.

Squad 1, Squad 20, Quint 17, Engine 12, Technical Rescue Teams and our Special Operations Division responded to the scene from the tornado affected area.

A tree fell through the roof of the house and into a bedroom, pinning a woman and her young daughter to the bed.

Firefighters split duties between stabilizing the tree and stabilizing the floor underneath it. They shored the floor from the basement so they could lift the tree up enough to slide the patients out.

The relatives were left with minor injuries and they were transported to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS.

“The crews worked together and did a wonderful job, even before additional equipment arrived,” said Captain David Tallent with CFD Special Operations.
