10-26-19 Fire Ops 101 provides inside look at firefighting
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a firefighter or wanted a behind-the-scenes look at the intense training CFD conducts to make sure our crews are prepared to respond to any scene? Our FireOps101 course gives citizens a glimpse into the job and they had an opportunity to test their own skills!
The Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 820, and the Chattanooga Fire Department will be held the annual event on October 26th at the Fire and Police Training Center.
Participants had the opportunity to meet a number of the firefighters serving the City of Chattanooga and participated in multiple training evolutions.
They learned about fire attack, vehicle extrication, emergency medical care, Rope Rescue, Rapid Intervention Skills and flammable liquids fires.
There were members of the community, doctors, city officials and nurses from the Vanderbilt Burn Center in the group.
10-25-19 Firefighters tackle attic blaze
Chattanooga firefighters worked quickly to contain a fire to one area of a family's home, preventing flames from spreading to the rest of the house.
It happened before 5 PM in the Belleau Woods subdivision in the 8000 block of Pershing Street.
Neighbors called 911 to report that they could see flames coming from the structure. Crews found heavy fire in the attic above the garage
Three adults and one child got out safely.
Firefighters worked quickly to get the fire extinguished, containing it to the attic.
Officials determined that it was accidental in nature.
Quint 21, Quint 8, Quint 7, Squad 7, Quint 6, Squad 19 and Squad 13 responded.
There were no injuries.
The Red Cross was notified to assist the impacted residents.
10-21-19 Information sought in Dodds Ave. arsons
Investigators have determined that two fires that occurred right down the street from one another were intentionally set.
First, CFD was called to a shed fire in the 4000 block of Dodds Avenue around 4:20 AM Sunday.
They found the burning shed and as they started working to extinguish the blaze, Chattanooga police officers alerted the crews that there was also a house fire nearby in the 4200 block of Dodds Avenue, two blocks away.
Firefighters found flames coming out of the back of the vacant house on Dodds. We worked to get everything out at both locations.
Investigators believe the arson cases are connected.
No injuries were reported.

10-12-19 Fire destroys entire apartment building
Chattanooga firefighters successfully prevented flames from spreading as they tackled a second alarm blaze at the Hamilton Pointe Apartments on East Brainerd Rd.
It happened around 4:45 PM Saturday and the entire 1800 building was destroyed.
The fire appears to have started in a lower unit and spread to the rest of the building.
10-7-19 CFD kicks off Fire Prevention Week
The Chattanooga Fire Department is highlighting the importance of Fire Prevention Week to increase fire safety and get families talking about the steps they can take to protect each other in the event of a fire.
Fire Marshal William Matlock was joined by Mayor Andy Berke on Monday at the Fireman's Fountain to mark the start of the annual national observation.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week 2019 is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”
