The cause of this morning's fire at 1359 Orbit Drive has been ruled accidental. A fire investigator says the fire was started by a portable space heater.

Chattanooga, TN -- Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire at 1359 Orbit Drive shortly after 3:00 this morning. Captain Scott Pell with Squad 19 said smoke and flames were shooting out a bedroom window when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

Chattanooga, TN - The Chattanooga Fire Department held its annual Fire Prevention Week awards ceremony today, October 24, 2016, at the Chattanooga Public Library downtown. Fire Marshal Beau Matlock and Assistant Fire Marshal Chuck Hartung announced the winners of the fire safety poster contest. The winning posters were the ones that best illustrated this year's fire safety theme, which was "Don't Wait -- Check the Date!" The winners received gift cards from Walmart, and the overall winner (i.e. Best of Show) will have her poster prominently displayed on a billboard for a month. A complete list of the poster contest winners is included below:

Overview: Fire Marshal Beau Matlock and members of the Fire Prevention Bureau will host this annual awards ceremony, which will last approximately 15-20 minutes. The students who won the fire safety poster contest will be there with parents and teachers to receive their gift certificates, ranging from $50 to $100.
