Don Eaves Heritage House is an Arts and Civic Center located in Jack Benson Heritage Park in the East Brainerd (Cannondale) area of Chattanooga. Once the estate of the Henshell Family, the house has now been transformed for the community's benefit. Multiple free public events occur throughout the year. These include a classic film series (the RetroPolitan Film Series on Thursday evenings), English Country Dance classes (Tuesday evenings), and a variety of unusual arts & crafts classes, concerts and recreational & educational programs. Our annual community tree lighting has traditionally been held each winter in the front half of the park in early December.

Calling All Classic Movie Lovers!

On consecutive Thursday evenings each month (from 6:30 - 9:30 pm) Don Eaves Heritage House presents the RetroPolitan Film Series – a curated selection of must-see (but quite possibly overlooked) “sleepers” from every era of cinema history.

An engaging Q&A usually follows each screening – driven by the questions and feedback from our attendees.

As we believe movie-going is a cherished & magical experience, we don't want anything to spoil the magic, either for ourselves or for others. Therefore, all of our films are presented in a comfortable “arthouse” environment, free of noise & distractions.

The English Country Dance Class

Our English Country Dance (ECD) is for everyone, from beginner to advanced dancers. No partner or previous experience is necessary.

* However, we do ask that you please bring a clean, separate pair of soft-soled shoes for dancing.

ECD is the great grandfather of many contemporary dances such as line dancing, contra, square and lots more. And even though the dance form is several hundred years old, new dances are still choreographed today.

One nice thing about the ECD dance form is once you learn a dance, you can go to another ECD class or gathering anywhere in the world and they will dance it the very same way, accompanied by the same music.

So if you are in Dallas or Denmark, Taiwan, or Tokyo, you can find a local ECD group and meet a group of local area dancers.  Here at Heritage House, we have had dancers from near and far come join our group in the very same manner.

Join us and find out for yourself why this dance form has remained popular for so very long.

Most Tuesdays - Doors open at 6:00pm and dancing runs from 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Presenting a Free Concert every quarter: The Generations concert series features a variety of music styles and genres presented by a bi-generational duo in a relaxed and intimate setting. Performers come to us from cities all over the Southeast and the performers present all original works. The songs are usually interspersed with the stories behind them as well as descriptions of each performer’s individual creative process.

Doors open at 6:30pm for "connect time" and the music begins at 7:00pm.
