On Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 4:54 p.m., Chattanooga Police officers responded to a report of a shooting. The following are the preliminary facts of that incident:

UPDATE: After a thorough investigation, CPD Homicide Investigators determined the initial information reported to be unfounded. Investigators ruled this shooting to be an accidental, self-inflicted incident.

After a thorough investigation by CPD Homicide Detectives, a suspect in the homicide of Isaac Queen is in custody.

Chattanooga Police with assistance from United States Marshal Service Southeast, Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Fulton County Georgia Sheriff's Office apprehended Demetrius Bynum (27) on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Bynum will be held in the Montgomery County, Alabama Jail on Fugitive from Justice charges pending extradition on his outstanding warrants. Chattanooga Police are charging Bynum with Criminal Homicide, Possession of a Firearm during Commission of a Dangerous Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

On August 27, 2017 at 5:24 p.m. Chattanooga Police were called to a local hospital after a party showed up with a gunshot wound. The following are the preliminary facts of that incident:

 

  • The party shot was transported to a local hospital by personally owned vehicle
  • The injury is considered non-life-threatening
  • The party shot changed the account of events during the investigation
  • Through investigation it was determined that the party seeking treatment was the primary aggressor
  • No victims have come forward or been identified
  • A stolen firearm was recovered from the injured party's vehicle
  • Members of the Violent Crimes Bureau are actively investigating this incident

Suspect & Charges:

Lovest L. Carter

DOB: 8/27/98

Charges: Felony Reckless Endangerment, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm during a Dangerous Felony and False Reports

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
