2-1-18 Firefighters Respond to Fire at Homeless Camp
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Around 11:00 a.m today, the Chattanooga Fire Department was dispatched to a reported explosion and fire in a section of woods off the 7400 block of Commons Boulevard. The first firefighters on the scene reported seeing smoke and flames in the woods. Battalion Chief David Thompson Jr. said the firefighters carried hand-held hoselines into the woods and quickly put the fire out. Several tents, mattresses and other combustible items burned up in the fire. None of the residents were there. However, two dogs that appeared to be in the care of the homeless people perished in the fire.
2-1-18 Man Suffers Burns in Morning House Fire
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 3016 13th Avenue in East Lake at 1:31 this morning. Firefighters with Engine 9 were the first on the scene and they reported that fire was showing throughout most of the structure. Captain Chris Cordes said a neighbor told them that everyone got out of the house, but some dogs were still inside.
1-29-18 Faulty Extension Cord Starts Morning Fire
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Shortly before 7:00 this morning, Chattanooga firefighters responded to a fire at 6431 Plantation Drive. Captain Michael Montieth with Quint 7 said heavy smoke was visible as they made their way inside the house. The man who lived there was still inside and he directed the firefighters to the bedroom where the fire was located. The firefighters got the man out of the house and worked quickly to get the blaze under control. The man was treated on the scene by Hamilton County EMS for smoke inhalation. He declined to be transported to a hospital.
1-25-18 House Fire Displaces Family of Six
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Around 3:30 this afternoon, Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 1301 E. 17th Street. The first firefighters on the scene reported smoke was showing from the one-story house. Battalion Chief Chris Willmore said the firefighters attacked the fire quickly, getting the fire under control in less than 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
1-23-18 Kitchen Fire Displaces Two People
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters responded to an apartment fire shortly after 9:00 Monday night at Royal Arms Apartments at 314 McBrien Road. Captain Kevin Carpenter with Quint 13 said the first firefighters on the scene found a small kitchen fire and quickly extinguished it with a portable water extinguisher.
