Update on New Concrete Skatepark!

Skatepark

In June of 2024, Chattanooga City Council approved funding for the completion of a 30,000 square foot concrete skate park to be built at the location of the current park. This park, designed by top designers from California Skateparks will feature numerous skateable elements geared for all levels of skate experience and type. This park will be available for skateboarding, roller skates to BMX bikes and is built for families.

Bidding for the construction of the new park will take place over the summer with construction starting this Fall. The construction of the park will take 5-6 months with the hopes of opening later in the Winter 2025.

For more on the design, we sat down with the lead designer for California Skateparks here.

Other updates and facts on the project:
The new park will include something for everyone, including…

A poured-in-place concrete skatepark, featuring approximately 30,000 square feet of skatable surface.

A new all-season restroom building, complete with a skateable roof and integrated park entry signage,

A public plaza for gatherings, events, and generally to make the park comfortable for all its visitors, regardless of whether or not they are on wheels.

A new dog park, rebuilt in a new configuration and including plentiful new trees for much better shade.

A new independent entrance straight from W 20th Street provides convenient Riverwalk access and public on-street parking.

Skating features have been chosen by the skatepark design team (California Skatepark) based on the numerous survey responses we received and balanced with the expected project budget.  Additionally, the park features a landscape design to soften the space and provide better shade than what the current park provides.
