Fatality In Wake Of E 36Th Street Blaze

Jump to:

The child, his two siblings and his father were taken to the hospital after flames tore through their home. While his father and siblings were treated and released with minor injuries, the three-year-old remained in critical condition and succumbed to complications associated with severe smoke inhalation and oxygen deprivation.

CFD was called to the scene of the house fire in the 1300 block of E 36th Street on Thursday, September 5th, at 5:47 pm.

The blaze appears to have started in the front of the house.

Two adults in a downstairs apartment got out safely. The family living upstairs escaped with the help of police officers and other Good Samaritans, but the three-year-old boy was trapped in a back bedroom.

Firefighters acted fast and they did an initial search and fire suppression looking for the boy. They located him and brought him out.

Sadly, he lost his life due to the severity of his injuries.

"We commend the actions of everyone involved in fighting to save this young child, both at the scene and at the hospital. Sincere condolences to his loved ones," Chief Hyman added.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
