Fire From Deep Fryer Leaves Two Homeless

Jump to:

When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke and flames were visible at the rear of the house.

Battalion Chief Fredrick Blake said the fire appears to have started accidentally. The residents were cooking fish in a deep fryer on the back deck. Chief Blake said the wind blew flames from the fryer onto the wall of the house. The flames then spread up into the attic.

The firefighters were able to get the fire under control in roughly 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Chief Blake said most of the fire damage was contained to the attic and exterior wall. The dollar loss was estimated at $30,000.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the two residents displaced by the fire.
