Firefighters Halt Gun Range Blaze

Jump to:

Chattanooga firefighters had a very quick stop on a commercial fire Friday afternoon on Highway 58.

It happened at 4:08 PM at Carter Shooting Supply (6208 Highway 58). There were reports that the building was filling up with black smoke.

Everyone evacuated the structure safely and CFD crews found rubber used for the gun range on fire. It was contained to a back corner and extinguished.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding units included: Quint 8, Squad 7, Ladder 7, Quint 6, Squad 19, Ladder 19, Engine 4, Engine 15 (Green), CFD Special Operations, HCEMS and CPD.

Thanks to Highway 58 and Dallas Bay for providing fire coverage at Station 7 while CFD was on the scene.

Here’s what the business posted: “We would like to thank everyone for your calls and texts to make sure we are ok. Just to let everyone know, the store was never on fire. The rubber in the backstop on the pistol side caught fire and was put out quickly by Chattanooga Fire Dept. It is completely enclosed concrete building so the fire was contained only to the rubber in the bullet trap. There is smoke and water but not a lot of major damage. The rifle side is fine, just smoke that will have to be cleaned up. The range will be closed for the next week or so until it can be cleaned up. Thanks to everyone for calling and texting, to make sure we are ok! We are all good and no one was injured.”
