School Dorm Evacuated Due To CO Levels

Jump to:

CFD was on the scene at McCallie School on Dodds Avenue Thursday night due to carbon monoxide levels in one of their buildings.

Just after 8:30 PM, we were called to the school after a CO alarm went off in one of the housing facilities.

High levels were found by responding firefighters and the dorm building was evacuated.

Everyone was placed in the student center to be evaluated by EMS. Their safety and well-being were paramount so every measure was taken by first responders and the school to handle the situation.

Our crews diligently searched for the source of the CO and monitored levels in the impacted facility. They believe the high CO levels were connected to the boiler room. The building was properly ventilated to make sure the air is safe for students and staff. The gas company responded to the scene as well.

Thirty three students and teachers were checked out by paramedics and everyone was alright.

No one was taken to the hospital.

The decision was made to keep everyone out of the impacted dorm overnight because the boilers and heating system were shut down as part of the CO investigation.

The school will have levels checked again to ensure air quality.
